If you’ve been looking for a way to simplify your finances, you might be interested in what OnePay, the fintech company backed by Walmart, is up to. They’ve just launched their very own wireless plan, a big step in their goal of becoming a one-stop shop for everything from savings to payments.
Starting this week, you can sign up for OnePay Wireless directly through the OnePay app. The new plan, created in partnership with the mobile services company Gigs, is an attractive deal. For just $35 a month, you get unlimited 5G data, talk, and text on the AT&T network. There are no credit checks or activation fees, and you can get started with just a few clicks.
Walmart created OnePay back in 2021 with the idea of turning it into a “super app,” similar to popular platforms like WeChat or Alipay. The company has been steadily adding services, which now include credit and debit cards, high-yield savings accounts, buy now, pay later options, and peer-to-peer payments. Adding a wireless plan to the mix is a natural next step, following a trend we’ve seen from other fintechs like Klarna and Nubank.
According to Hermann Frank, the CEO of Gigs, this type of partnership is a win for everyone. It helps AT&T acquire new customers more affordably, and those savings get passed on to you. Frank believes that the average person is overpaying for their phone bill and that this new plan offers a much more affordable option with all the modern features you need. AT&T’s William Traylor agrees, stating that the future of wireless is one where you can manage your phone plan through the apps you use every day.
